iShares Cup 2008
Welcome to the iShares Cup 2008!
The iShares Cup Extreme 40 Sailing Series is a five-event circuit stopping at some of Europe’s top destinations including Lugano (Switzerland), Skandia Cowes Week (UK), Amsterdam (The Netherlands), and new venues in Germany (Kiel) and France (Hyères). Showcasing top-level racing, the event attracts some of the world's best Olympic, round the world, America's Cup and solo sailors, who will go head-to-head on open sea, picturesque lakes and restricted canals.
Switzerland, Lugano : 30th May - 1st June
France, Hyères : 13th - 15th June
UK, Skandia Cowes Week : 2nd - 4th August
Germany, Kiel : 29th - 31st August
Netherlands, Amsterdam : 19th - 21st September
All racing is held close to the land so that spectators watch, hear and interact with the crews, the sport and the competition.
Extreme 40s are crewed by four sailors with an exclusive 'fifth man' spot given over to a VIP or media guest - a unique chance to ride shotgun and see these professional crews in action at close quarters.
iShares Cup Events
The first iShares Cup event will take place at a new location with a stunning mountain backdrop from 30 May - 1 June in Lugano located in Switzerland right on the Italian border on its stunning lake.
There's another new venue for the second event on the iShares Cup circuit: Hyères on the French Riviera, which is famous for its ideal sailing conditions of Mistral winds and sparkling Mediterranean sea.
The iShares Cup will return to the UK's Skandia Cowes Week - a brilliant venue with great sea breezes and copious amounts of tide to add extra spice, as well as a perfect platform for extended corporate hospitality after the racing.
The fourth event in the iShares Cup visits another new location, when it heads to Kiel on the Baltic Sea in Germany - a bustling city with a proud maritime heritage, set on one of the busiest waterways in the world.
For the second season in a row the iShares cup will return to Amsterdam between 19-21 September, a not-to-be-missed destination that will once again see the iShares Cup Extreme 40 Sailing Series reach an exciting finale on the IJ Haven canal.
